There is an earworm while riding a night bus in Java, dangdut koplo, the pirated discs of which are classily played on the television by night bus drivers when the conductor is sleeping in the backseat, leaving them alone facing twists of the road. It might be a mere remedy against drowsiness, or their actual interest, or even a presumption of their passengers’ favourite music taste.
One of Malay orchestras whose pirated discs are the most played is New Pallapa. All their concerts are flooded by Sahabat New Pallapa (SNP), their fan base. There even exists a special meet-up concert held for SNP who come in uniform with their favourite music groups attributes.
New Pallapa were first established in 1998 by Totok Ispiranto and Juana Aurora in Sidoarjo, East Java. The Malay orchestra changed their music genre in 2004 into dangdut koplo, a genre spearheaded by music groups in East Java that has become popular in Indonesia since 2000. New Pallapa later developed into the largest dangdut music group in Java, especially in East Java and surrounding areas.
Just like other dangdut koplo music groups, New Pallapa have also skyrocketed through its crackerjack kendang player, Cak Met, who determines the rhythm and decides when the music kicks in. Cak Met who has his own fan base is ordained as the best kendang player in the world of koplo.
New Pallapa often collaborate with famous dangdut singers such as Brodin, Evi Tamala, Via Vallen, Mansyur S., and Yus Yunus.
