When the three tough leaders of Waiwuang Village named Umbu Amahu, Ngongo Tau Masusu, and Bayang Amahu left for a long period of time and did not return to their village, locals who were afflicted with longing then thought that they had died.
However, the three leader were surprisingly still alive and returned to Waiwuang Village. It was at that time, Umbu Amahu heard the news that his wife, Rabu Kaba, had turned to a man from Kodi Village named Teda Gaiparona. Amahu who could not accept the fact, looked for Kaba. Although unfortunately, his wife refused.
In the end he asked Gaiparona to pay him a dowry in the form of cow, buffalo, and valuables. Gaiparona and Kaba finally held their marriage ceremony in an official way. At the end of the marriage, Umbu Dulla's family advised that Waiwuang people held a nyale tradition in the form of a pasola to let go of the sadness of those who had lost one of their most beautiful women, Rabu Kaba.
Starting from that Sumba folklore, the Pasola Festival has now become one of the annual festivals in Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara. Pasola Festival is generally a typical Sumba game, where two people riding horses throw spears or javelins. This festival begins with the implementation of nyale tradition – a gratitude ceremony during the full moon when an abundance of sea worms come on the beach.
